Why move to Coventry?
Coventry is located on the River Sherbourne in the heart of the West Midlands. The city’s history is marked by resilience, especially during the Second World War when its ancient cathedral was bombed. The city responded by building a new cathedral in 1962, designed by Sir Basil Spence, next to the ruins of the ancient one. This modern cathedral stands as a symbol of Coventry’s ability to rebuild and reinvent itself.
Today, the city is a hub for business services, research, design, and the creative industries, offering a wide range of employment opportunities. It was granted the UK City of Culture in 2021.
Location
Coventry is easy to get to and has accessible road and rail routes to the nearby towns of Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon, Leamington and Birmingham.
It’s close to the M40 and M42 allowing access to larger cities such as Manchester and London. There are regular bus services to Warwick, Kenilworth, Stratford-upon-Avon and Leamington and trains to further afield.
Not only that, the Warwickshire countryside is within easy reach and the picturesque Cotswolds are about an hour’s drive away.
Schools
Coventry has a wealth of good schools, both state and private, making it a great place for families. These complement other schools, whether private, grammar and state, in the towns of Warwick, Leamington and Rugby, which are all within easy commuting distance.
Sports facilities
From football to rugby, there is plenty to get stuck into in Coventry. Coventry Football Club, the Sky Blues, famously won the FA Cup in 1987 and they stayed in the top flight until relegation in 2001. In 2026, they climbed back up through the ranks to compete in the Premier League.
There are two rugby union and one rugby league team, ice hockey and American football teams which call Coventry home. Coventry Speedway can be found at Brandon Stadium and there are plenty of amateur sporting and leisure clubs throughout the city for everything from tennis and swimming to netball and hockey.
Community
There are plenty of bars and restaurants in Coventry, as well as the Belgrade and Albany theatres, cinemas, bowling alleys and music concerts held at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
A little out of town is Warwick Arts Centre within Warwick University’s campus, which boasts a host of cultural events from cinema and comedy to theatre and music.
There is something in Coventry for every age and every budget. Although much of the city centre was rebuilt after the war, there are still period properties in sought-after areas.
Alongside these period properties, Coventry has seen the development of modern homes, providing contemporary living spaces with all the conveniences of modern life. Whether you’re a growing family or looking to downsize, you’ll find plenty of options to suit.
Shops
The city offers a mix of independent and high-street shops, providing unique and locally-made products that give the shopping experience a personal touch. There are also numerous out-of-town retail parks with furniture stores, supermarkets, clothes shops and more.
In addition to its retail offerings, Coventry is home to a variety of well-regarded cafes, pubs, restaurants and hotels, making it easy to enjoy a leisurely meal or a quick coffee break while you’re out and about. For some of the best local haunts, head outside of the city centre to neighbourhoods like Coundon, Chapelfields, Cheylesmore and beyond.
