It’s official. Stratford-upon-Avon is one of the happiest places to live in the UK.
The annual list from property portal Rightmove places Shakespeare’s town of birth at number 13. It is also first in the West Midlands category with Leamington Spa coming in at number two. Solihull came in at number 12 with Coventry one rung below at 13. Leamington was also 21st in the national rankings.
The market town of Woodbridge in Suffolk topped the UK leader board for the first time.
Now in its 13th year, Rightmove surveyed more than 35,000 people across Great Britain for its Happy at Home index to find out exactly what they love (or don’t love) about where they live.
The survey measures how residents feel about their local area across 15 key happiness factors. These range from the sense of togetherness within the community and access to green spaces, to the feeling of belonging a place fosters.
This year people from towns, cities, and villages across the country shared their thoughts about what matters most to them in their local areas. According to the survey, it’s a mix of things, such as a welcoming community where you can truly be yourself; access to nature, such as local countryside, or National Parks; and practical things, such as nearby schools, doctors, and shops.
Sheldon Bosley Knight’s Stratford Michael Fulford said: “Stratford being voted as one of the top places to live in the UK makes perfect sense! There’s tons of history, entertainment, great schools and college plus a bustling town centre – right on the River Avon – not to mention the fantastic variety of property to call home.”
