Meet Amy, the new sales manager at Shipston-on-Stour. Amy has a wealth of experience and has really hit the ground running since she joined the team. When she’s not at work she loves spending time with her son, going on bike rides and has recently taken up clay pigeon shooting.
What is your Sheldon Bosley Knight job title and where are you based?
I’m sales manager at Shipston-on-Stour.
What is your role and what does your job entail?
No two days are ever the same which is why I love the job! My main roles are overseeing the day-to-day running of my sales team, supporting and encouraging them to be the best they can, generating new business and giving advice to clients about their properties. A typical day would involve, a morning meeting so we can all check in and make a plan for the day, making sure all feedback is collected and passed on to our vendors, carrying out a few market appraisals, checking all our properties are presented the best they can be and talking to vendors about progress, chasing sales and talking to our sales progressions team to check we are on track with exchanges. It’s very busy!
What did you do before this job?
I started working for Harrison & Hardie in Moreton-in-Marsh 20 years ago working my way from administrator/PA to assistant manager.
How did you get into the property industry and how long have you worked within it?
I used to work as a travel agent in Shipston-on-Stour. It was a small independent company specialising is bespoke tailor-made travel. Unfortunately the company got taken over by a large corporate which did not let us offer what our clients wanted so I started looking for work. I have always been interested in property and realised many skills I had could be easily transferred to estate agency. I went for my interview with Karen Harrison at H&H and never looked back.
What attracted you to working for Sheldon Bosley Knight?
For me to work for an independent company is important. I loved the diversity of Sheldon Bosley Knight and that we can deal with all aspects of property in-house via the various departments. This could be a house with acres and outbuildings where I need to value the house and then work with the rural team to price the land. Or it could involve our planning advisor/architectural team advising on the potential for the outbuildings, a commercial opportunity, or someone who needs to sell quickly and who might need our auction team to offer advice.
What’s the best bit about your job?
I honestly just love helping people and have a passion for it. I love meeting different people and hearing their stories and history of their houses. I still get a huge buzz when I sell a house, or when I persuade someone to view a property they didn’t think was suitable and they end up buying it!
What qualifications or training do you need to do this job?
Currently nothing official although I do have my Level 3 Qualification in Residential Sales which there is talk of being made compulsory in the industry. I have been on lots of training courses and am always reading up on how to be the best at what I do and how to offer the best service I can.
What motivates you to work hard?
Helping people and seeing a positive outcome. I love a challenge such as maybe selling a property quickly off market, finding someone the impossible, or persuading them to see a house they wouldn’t think was for them and it turns out to be the one.
Who or what inspires you?
I am inspired by lots of people but Karen Harrison my first boss in estate agency and her husband James taught me everything I know about agency and property. We are still great friends all these years later.
What are your career goals?
I would like to make the office as successful as possible and grow the team.
What do you do when you are not at work?
I spend lots of time with my 10-year-old son and dog Bengy. We are always planning a bike ride or walk and more recently have tried clay pigeon shooting which we loved. I also love going out for meals with friends. There are so many lovely restaurants and pubs in the area, we are always spoilt for choice!
What is the best piece of career advice you have ever been given?
Believe in yourself, be yourself and do the best you can.
Finally, have there been any unexpected surprises along the way?
I think we have all walked in on someone still asleep or seen the aftermath of a teenage house party whilst the parents are away!
