Planning her career

It’s never easy saying goodbye to a talented member of the Sheldon Bosley Knight team but when it’s because they’ve secured an opportunity of a lifetime it makes it a little easier.

After making her mark in the planning and architecture team, Laura Ulyett is getting ready for a move to the Big Smoke in September and a job with top UK planning and development consultancy, Lichfield.

She will be joining the company’s prestigious graduate training and development programme as graduate planner, no small achievement as she is one of only four to be taken on this year from thousands who apply.

The role will see her supporting the team on a number of different, large-scale, strategic and national infrastructure projects with clients including Merlin Entertainments, HS2 and the BBC.

She said: “I’m really pleased because it’s such an amazing opportunity and I’m excited to get stuck in. It’s incredibly competitive and so I feel very lucky and proud to have been chosen.

“Although I have loved being at Sheldon Bosley Knight and have learned a lot, I wanted to spread my wings and get some broader experience.

“Currently the work I do is focused on rural applications but this new job will be a complete change. It will allow me to gain skills and knowledge within a more urban setting on applications which include residential, commercial and national infrastructure.

“As well as working with some incredible clients on exciting projects, I will be able to continue working towards my APC and become chartered town planner.

“I’m grateful to Sheldon Bosley Knight for all the opportunities afforded to me. As well as working with a very supportive team, my confidence has grown and I’ve been encouraged and trusted to take on projects independently right from the start.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better start to my career, but now I’m ready for the next challenge.”

Associate director and head of planning and architecture, Natasha Blackmore da Silva said: “Laura started as a graduate planner straight after finishing university and quickly became an integral part of our team. She has worked on several big projects during her time here and we have a number of very happy clients thanks to her.

“Whilst we are sad to see her go, we are proud to say she has been accepted on a highly competitive gradate scheme in London.

“Good luck Laura with your future endeavours and we hope to see you again soon.”
