Meet the team…. Laura Ulyett

Before working at Sheldon Bosley Knight Laura completed her masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Birmingham and an undergraduate degree in Geography before that. Since working at Sheldon Bosley Knight she has worked on a number of planning applications, with her favourites being those involving Class Q.

What is your job title and where are you based?

I am a planning assistant based in Stratford-upon-Avon

What is your role and what does your job entail? Is there a typical day?

I work in planning, and no two days are the same! As part of my job I do all sorts, from visiting sites to assess their planning potential, preparation and submission of planning documents and applications, monitoring submitted applications, working with the architecture department to maximise scheme potential and just about everything planning-related in between.

What did you do before this job? Which company and how long were you there?

Before coming to Sheldon Bosley Knight I was finished my masters in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Birmingham. I previously worked in the hospitality industry since I was 16.

What attracted you to working for Sheldon Bosley Knight?

Putting clients first in everything we do as well as the opportunity to work with lots of the other teams, such as rural, architecture, strategic land and sales was a big attraction.

What’s the best bit about your job?

The best part is no two days are the same! The variety of applications we work on means there is always something to get stuck in to. I also love to let clients know their applications have been approved!

What qualifications or training do you need to do this job?

I have a post graduate degree in planning and am a licentiate of the RTPI. Once I’ve completed my APC, I will be a chartered town planner.

What motivates you to work hard?

Getting the best outcomes for our clients and their needs.

What do you do when you are not at work?

Now I’ve finished my dissertation, I am getting back in to running and I always enjoy a meal out and a cocktail.

What is the best piece of career advice you have ever been given?

Be confident in the things you know, and motivated by the things you don’t.
